Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 2 June 2017, National Holding Company Uzbekneftegaz and Russia’s Gazprom signed an agreement on strategic cooperation.
The document was signed within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum - 2017.
Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan - Chairman of the Board of Governors of Uzbekneftegaz Gulomjon Ibragimov and Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom Alexey Miller signed the document.
Under the agreement, the companies intend to cooperate in implementation of new projects in the territory of Uzbekistan.
In particular, the parties will cooperate in the field of reconstruction, construction and operation of gas infrastructure facilities; geological exploration, production, processing and storage of hydrocarbons; use of compressed and liquefied natural gas for autonomous gasification.
Uzbekneftegaz and Gazprom will also develop a general scheme of gas supply to Uzbekistan.
Alexey Miller and Gulomjon Ibragimov held a working meeting. The sides highly appreciated the signed agreement.
It was noted that its implementation will have a significant positive effect on development of the country’s gas industry.
Russian company is implementing several projects in Uzbekistan. In 2006, Gazprom and Uzbekneftegaz signed an agreement on main principles of geological exploration of subsoil of investment blocks in the Ustyurt region of Uzbekistan.
On 5 April 2017, Gazprom and Uzbekneftegaz signed a contract for purchase of 4 billion cubic meters of gas a year by Gazprom for a period of up to five years, starting from 2018.
In April 2017, the sides concluded an agreement on joint exploration and engineering and innovation works.
Gazprom purchased about 6.2 billion cubic meters of gas from Uzbekistan in 2016.
