Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 June 2016, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) held “Textile Processing Technology” seminar in Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry.
Uzbekistan is one of the six leading countries - producers of cotton, with high investment potential in the field of textile industry. During a high-level official visit of the head of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan in 2014 the parties signed a "Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of textile technopark" and commenced the development of cooperation between the two countries in the field of textile industry.
The seminar was organized with the support of KOICA Consultant Hwan Ki Lee at Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry, jointly with leading Korean research institutions, such as the Korea Institute for Development of Textile Engineering, Korea Institute of Textile Technology, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, and others. It was planned to introduce new Korean technologies with the use of Uzbek cotton, which is the main raw material. This contributes to a large extent in the development of cooperation in the field of textile industry.
The seminar hosted the universities in Uzbekistan, specialized in the area of textile industry: Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry, Namangan Technical Institute, Karshi State University. The participating universities got acquainted with the new technology Rayon- Viscose fiber. Professors and graduate students of universities discussed the latest technologies and their use in the cotton industry.
KOICA Uzbekistan Office Director Ms. Im Jeong Hee expressed hope that the seminar, by sharing the excellence of Korea’s textile technology, will help promote the expansion of Korean companies in Uzbekistan and further provide a forum for knowledge sharing between the two countries’ textile experts, thereby contributing to the development of textile industry in Uzbekistan.
