Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- About 235 projects for US$1.921 billion will be implemented in Karakalpakstan in 2015-2018.

The projects will be implemented within the programme measures on modernization of production and improving infrastructure for social-economic development of Karakalpakstan. The programme was approved by the Government of Uzbekistan.

According to the programme, 229 projects for US$1.169 billion will be realized in industry. Six projects for US$751.8 million are directed to development of engineering-communication infrastructure.

Majority of projects will be realized in the sphere of construction materials (95 projects), food industry (73) and light industry (23).

The projects within the programme will be realized due to own resources of the initiators for US$763.4 million and loans of the banks – US$1.184 billion. The programme will allow to create over 5,680 jobs.

According to the forecast of the Government of Uzbekistan, gross regional product (GRP) of Karakalpakstan will grow from 3.632 trillion soums in 2014 to 11.338 trillion soums in 2020.

Share of industry in GRP will grow from 12.7% in 2014 to 24.5% in 2020 and services – from 49.5% to 49.7%. At the same time, share of agriculture in the GRP will fall from 20% in 2014 to 14.3% in 2020 and construction – from 12.8% to 9.5%.
